After second generation vessels, U.N RO-RO, competing with itself, ordered third generation ships. Third generation vessels were also built in Germany's Flenburger Schiffbau Gesellschaft (FSG) Shipyard as previous ones. Superior characteristics of the second generation vessels are being kept in the third generation vessels. The important difference is the increase in capacity.
First of the third generation vessels "Saffet Ulusoy" began her voyages on 8 April 2005. After her, UN Marmara was built and went into service on 12 July 2005. UN Pendik landed on the sea on 5 August 2005 and was delivered on 14 October 2005 and the last one, UN Trieste was delivered on 12 January 2006.
Capacity Increased
Most prominent feature of the third generation vessels is their increased capacity. Accommodation area has been lifted up and the open deck has met with the aft side of the vessel. With the increased capacity, U.N RO-RO Operations has started a new era; from now on, 335 vehicles or 254 trailers could be carried in a single voyage.
Powerful Engines
Length of the ships is 193 meters and draft is 6 meters 45 cm. They have two MAC engines generating 8100 KW power just like the previous ones. Last generation vessels make 21.5 nautical miles and weight 8 thousand 702 ton.
Maintainable Quality
U.N RO-RO Operations owning the most modern vessels in its fleet is aiming to implement a sustainable quality in RO-RO lines.
