Pendik RO-RO port of U.N RO-RO Operations Inc., having an area where 530 semi trailers could park without obstructing each other, was put into service with a ceremony attended by many guests including Prime Minister R. Tayyip Erdoğan and Ministers Kürşat Tüzmen, Kemal Unakıtan, Binali Yıldırım on April 29th, 2006. Thanks to the Pendik RO-RO port, built for "Fast RO-RO Project" on 103.000m2 land, transporters have gained 3 hours of driving time over Haydarpaşa for each headway. Besides, it had removed the traffic caused by semi trailers in between Icerenkoy-Harem. Big investments have been made on the Pendik RO-RO Terminal to overcome one of the biggest problems of our country, illegal immigration and smuggling. The Gamma-Ray Vehicle inspection system has been an effective measure against such issues. Since 9 September 2006 all transporters, carrying Turkish imports and using our ships to go abroad, can purchase tax free fuel from the tank station within the terminal.
